CATWALK fashion from the battlefields of the 16th century is going on show at Fort Nelson, Fareham.

The decorative armour of the Knights of St John in Malta is said to one of the most beautiful in history and was inspired by decorations in a house belonging to the Roman Emperor Nero.

Senior curator at the Royal Armouries museum Karen Watts said: "These are the 16th century's ultimate designer clothing."

The armour, which features images of animals, plants and monsters, has been researched and revived by a gun engraver whose skills will also be on display.

The exhibition is open until next spring.
