A PARTY from a Hampshire naval base will soon be taking the high road to Morocco - and one group member is raising money for the Cancer Research Campaign at the same time.

A group of 18 personnel from HMS Collingwood in Fareham is embarking on a ten-day adventure training expedition to Morocco's Atlas Mountains tomorrow.

The party consists of junior ratings and officers - and one civilian, Vanessa Cheatham, of Gosport. She is a personal assistant at Collingwood, employed by Flagship Training Limited.

She is raising funds for the cancer charity by completing the trek.

Vanessa has received a contribution from her employers towards the cost of the trek.

She said the expedition was an opp-ortunity for personal training - and for raising money for a worthy cause.

The tough trek in the High Atlas Mountains is part of their training for the rest of the party of Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel.

The trek will culminate in the ascent of Mount Toubkal. At nearly 14,000 ft, it is the highest mountain in North Africa.
