MAKE believe became reality for a group of children when Bob the Builder turned up in their Hedge End street.
The much-loved cartoon character was guest of honour at a special party to mark the official opening of a new housing complex in Wildern Lane.
But as well as the chance to meet their hero the youngsters were also entertained by clowns and treated to a slap-up meal.
The event was held to mark the completion of houses and apartments constructed for Atlantic Housing on the site of former squash courts.
The £1.25 million project has been designed to provide social housing and there will also be a number of properties for private letting.
Spokeswoman Sharon Mit-chell said: "We wanted to involve the whole community in the opening.
"People have had to put up with noise and disruption during the construction and we just wanted to say a big thank you to them."
