Hampshire's Ian Eames has picked up a European title in only his second event on the circuit.

The former county youth player teamed up with Cambridgeshire's Matthew Chapman to win the Norway Open Pairs title.

On the way to the crown they beat the number eight seeds Bjarne Jensen and Brian Sorensen - both Danish internationals - and title favourites, England captain Martin Adams and current World Master Andy Fordham 3-0.

In the final they beat Les Fitton Tony O'Shea 5-3.

Eames, from Hayling Island, also reached the last 64 of the men's singles, losing to former Norwegian top player Thor Helmer Johannssen.

Waterlooville's Mark Perry also reached the last 64 of the singles and the quarter-finals of the youth singles.

The men's singles was won by Fordham who beat Bob Taylor in the final. Dutchman Raymond Barneveld and England's Steve Coote were semi-finalists.

Park Gate twice came from behind to beat Railway by the narrowest of margins when the top two clubs met at the Railway in the South Hants Invitation League. The teams are battling it out at the top, level on points, after this latest Park Gate victory.

Park Gate hit back and wins from Paul Schick, Steve Musson and Mick Cookman put them in front. Dave Mellish and Jason Crawley won to put Railway back in front but the last pair of Graham Jones and Sam Rooney sealed the Park Gate win.
