SOUTHAMPTON International continues to be one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, with overseas routes seeing a huge increase in bookings.

Figures just released by the airport's owners and operators, BAA show the number of passengers using the airport increased by more than 14 per cent in the last 12 months.

During July, 82,500 travellers passed through, about 3,000 more than in June.

The airport's international network has seen a massive 43 per cent increase in passengers from July 1999 to last month.

This is due to British Regional Airline's new route linking Southampton with Frankfurt, extra flights to Paris and Amsterdam, strong numbers going to Dublin and the popularity of Thomson holiday services.
