Hampshire's three England Youth internationals won six gold medals and two bronze medals at the European Darts Championships in Gibraltar.

Horndean's Jason Crawley, 15, and Aldershot's James Wade, 17, both making their first appearances at the event, first won gold for England when they beat the Netherlands in the race to the four-man team title.

They followed up with a tremendous effort to lift the men's pairs title, beating Germany's Jerry Wulffe and Thomas Porkert in the final.

England's overall points haul placed them first ahead of the Netherlands - so Crawley and Wade netted their third gold medal of the weekend.

Crawley now has the distinction of holding both the British Under-18 Pairs title (with Southampton's Danny Ballard) and the European Under-18 Pairs crown.

Eastleigh's Laura Power, 16, had competed in the previous event in 1999 in Vejle, Denmark, where she won a silver and a bronze medal.

The current British Under-21 Ladies Champion, who plays for the Hampshire Ladies' team as well as the Youth team, reached the semi-finals of the ladies' singles and claimed a bronze medal.

England's two-girl team's points total placed them third behind Wales and Sweden and Power picked up another bronze.

Hampshire's Youth A team missed the chance of reaching the final of the British Youth KO Cup in Kettering. They were beaten by the narrowest of margins by great rivals Glamorgan.

Victories came against Norfolk (7-2) and Essex A (6-3) but the 5-4 defeat against Glamorgan ended the team's chances.

Montgomery and Radnor, who were to reach the final, beat the Hampshire B team 6-3 in the last 32.

The last 16 proved very disappointing for Hampshire players with Danny Ballard losing to eventual winner Paul Higgins. Shaun Little also went out, along with Mark Perry. Jason Crawley lost in the first round to fellow England international Steve Bunting and James Wade went out in the second round to the previous champion Matthew Chapman who again reached the final.

Hampshire had three players reach the last 32 of the British Classic in Kettering. Mark Perry lost to Chris Mason, Les Wallace lost to Jez Porter and Paul Hogan was beaten by Wayne Jones, who went on to reach the final where he was beaten by Ritchie Davies.

South Hants Invitation: Park Gate's second defeat of the season has really opened up the top of the table. Now Railway, who have a game in hand against bottom club Searles A, could go top - from third - if they win well. Park Gate travel to Railway at Cosham on Tuesday and that could be a stunning match to watch. But Meon are in there fighing as well and big wins could set them up for a tilt at the title too. Steve Musson recorded the fastest leg of the night after winning in just 28 darts over 1001.

Searles Singles: Steve Musson's superb afternoon of darts came to nothing when he was beaten by a 'buzzzing' Kim Osborn in the final 5-0.

A small but talented field of 24 players had started out on the quest for the £100 first prize at Searles. A short round robin stage brought the field down to 16 who then took part in a straight knockout. Steve Musson had been in superb form all day but had to concede to the in-form Osborn, who had finished with a 30.18 average against the 26.93 of Musson. Beaten semi-finalists were Stu Bailey and Paul Booker.

Totton Ladies: New Forest Hotel A are back on track again with a 6-1 defeat of Salmon Leap. Only Lisa Eagle lost for Hotel as they rid their systems of the defeat by Peg & Parrot last time out.

Peg were sent spinning to defeat by White Horse. Ballistics though are still the league leaders and it is all boiling up nicely to when Ballistics meet Hotel on September 20 at the Salmon Leap.

Romsey Ladies: Joan Phillips, organiser, has set August 14 as the date for the AGM. New teams are welcome but should contact Joan Phillips on 023-8073-3998. Meeting venue is William IV and starts at 8.30pm. September 11 is the anticipated season start date.
