A STUNNING sculpture exhibition, inspired by man's sense of the sacred, opens this week at Winchester Cathedral.

Sculpture And The Divine includes some 20 works, ranging from unknown artists from as long ago as 380BC to some of the greatest contemporary sculptors.

The pieces are from private and national collections such as the British Museum and permanent works within Winchester Cath-edral, including the Triforium Gallery.

Winchester Cathedral's own limestone female figure is also on show and is one of the finest examples of 13th century sculpture.

Artists with international reputations, including Sir Anthony Caro OM, who is considered Britain's leading sculptor and successor to Henry Moore, represent the contemporary work.

The exhibition is open to the public throughout August from 8.30am to 5pm, with cathedral services as usual.
