A STORYTELLER used the power of words to hold spellbound a room full of children.
Rahi Baines, of the Hampshire multi-cultural centre in Southampton, was at St Bede's Primary School in Winchester as part of its Book Week.
He told two stories from India to the whole school of 320 children aged between four and eleven on Monday.
Louise Waldron, the event co-ordinator, said: "This is the first time in our Book Week that we have used stories from other cultures. The children really enjoyed it.
"It is encouraging children to see how people are the same but also celebrating the differences of people around the world."
Later Mr Baines worked with seven- and eight-year-olds telling stories and illustrating the tales with musical instruments.
The other children worked on various projects including a festival of global citizenship focusing on Ghana, native Americans and discovering stories from around the world.
