SOUTHAMPTON'S Iris Gundry was being presented her MBE at Buckingham Palace today after devoting almost 50 years to voluntary work.
The 78-year-old from Warwick Road, Shirley, first joined the Women's Royal Voluntary Service in 1952.
Ever since Southampton-born Iris has given unstinting service to the organisation by helping to co-ordinate meals on wheels and mobile book services.
She said: "I loved every minute of it, and I would do it all again twice or three times over.
"At the moment the work involves taking books to people who are housebound.
"It's exciting to be going to the palace. It's a great honour."
