A WAR hero, who has beaten all odds in battle, wants to help a toddler who has a fight of his own on his hands.

Sergeant Peter Fyfe, 34, will be dressed in full uniform this Saturday in Winchester city centre to help raise cash for three-year-old Callum Kenny.

Callum has had a tumour on his spine since he was six months old. Now he is desperate to go to Disneyland in Florida to see Mickey Mouse.

The story touched Peter, who is an instructor at the Army Training Regiment near Winchester, so much he will spend all day with buckets trying to persuade shoppers in the Brooks centre to part with their cash.

Peter himself has beaten the odds to live after his was seriously injured in the friendly fire tragedy in the Gulf War in 1991.

He was with the King's Royal Hussars when the armoured vehicle they were in was mistakenly attacked by an American A-10 Thunderbolt killing nine fellow soldiers.

Peter has also survived a mortar attack in Northern Ireland and a helicopter crash.

He said: "I would like to raise £1,000 for the lad. He loves Mickey Mouse and is desperate to go to Disneyworld.

"The tumour has returned and he is having chemotherapy and is very poorly."

Peter is hoping to get Callum, who comes from Bradford, out to America in May but before that he is going to bring him down to Winchester to visit the Army Training Regiment.

And he is so dedicated to the task he will stay on station all day even if his wife Heather gives birth to their second child. He said: "She's quite happy about it, as long as I raise the cash."

Peter will be at the Brooks main entrance on Saturday from 9.30 am to 5pm.

Anyone who would like to donate some money should write a cheque made out to Callum Kenny c/o Sgt Peter Fyfe, A Squadron ATR, Worthy Down, Winchester, SO21 6NQ.
