BRENTFORD 0 - CHERRIES 2

MEL Machin has hinted he could be tempted to blood the latest crop of Cherries youngsters after seeing his side finally end their lingering relegation fears.

Cherries moved into tenth place in Division 2 after Claus Jorgensen's fifth goal of the season and Steve Robinson's late penalty earned them a 2-0 win at Brentford on Saturday.

The Griffin Park victory leaves Machin's men 14 points clear of the bottom four and almost certainly guarantees Cherries will finish in mid-table.

It also allows Machin the freedom to start planning ahead and could see the likes of Wade Elliott, Justin Keeler and Brian Stock make their full debuts before the season is over.

Machin said: "I am hoping to give some of the younger players more experience in the next few weeks because they are the future of the club.

"Wade, Justin and Brian have only just progressed into the league game and from what I have seen so far from them, they have all done well."

Elliott and Keeler were plucked from the non-league ranks earlier this season and were both named among the Cherries substitutes on Saturday.

Machin could also run the rule over talented teenagers Danny Smith and James Ford who helped the Cherries youth team reach the final of the South West Counties League Cup on Saturday.

Smith, 17, was watched by a host of scouts when he netted twice as Cherries beat Bath City at Chapel Gate and has already represented an FA Youth XI this season.
