JAMES RICHARDSON and Tony Hill brought national titles back to Southampton after returning triumphant from the National Schoolboys Boxing Championships.

The pair, from Southampton Golden Ring ABC, made it a day of double glory as Hill clinched a first-ever title, and Richardson won his second Schoolboys title in sucessive years.

Hill's tale was the more dramatic, having had to skip off more than half a kilo in order to make the weight.

And as he discovered the draw put his bout on second, he had little time to recover from his efforts.

Not that it made much difference as he dominated the opening two rounds against Manchester lad Daniel Worthington from Mottram & Hattersley ABC.

In the third, Hill began to tire but still had enough left to keep out of trouble and clinch the Junior B 45kg title by a majority points decision, 59-58 59-58 58-59.

Richardson made light of stepping up a weight and age group to the Intermediate 48kg and wrapped his second title with a unanimous points win over Richard Gooding from the Chorley ABC.

Richardson went out fast and dominated the opening two rounds, working cleverly to the body of a much taller opponent.

Knowing that only a KO would win him the title, Gooding went for broke in the third, but again Richardson kept his boxing together tightly to nullify any threat.
