A BRAVE mum has leapt into action to help a charity for the disabled after it was targeted by thieves.

Beverly Kelly, from Maybush, Southampton, took part in an assault course used for training rugby players in a bid to raise money for the Rose Road Children's Appeal.

Burglars stole thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment which had been donated by firms backing the charity's on-going drive to raise £4.5m for a purpose-built centre for profoundly disabled children.

Mrs Kelly, of Winston Close, had organised the sponsored event at Millbrook Rugby Club because her 16-year-old son Richard is a pupil at the school.

Her sister Tracy Gedge and friend Lesley Mayhurst also took part in the challenge on Sunday.

Mrs Kelly said: "None of us are very fit and it was quite a challenge. Everyone had flour and eggs and water at us to throw. It was a good day and all for a good cause."

Anyone who would like to donate money to the Rose Road Appeal can contact the charity on 023 8039 3996.
