COWES SPORTS striker Jamie O'Rourke underlined just what the Islanders will be missing when he steps up a level to play Dr Martens League football for Havant & Waterlooville.

The young striker grabbed a last-gasp goal to book Cowes' first-ever ticket to the last 16 of the FA Carlsberg Vase after a highly-charged 1-0 victory over Ryman League Tilbury.

O'Rourke, who is expected to join H&W permanently after Cowes' Vase run is over, struck two minutes from the end when he latched on to an Adam Barsdell through ball and clinically finished past Mark Harpingham.

But Cowes' win will be overshadowed by some ugly scenes which tarnished the match with police called in at half-time to sort out a free-for-all involving players and supporters as the teams left the pitch.

The trouble was initially sparked by a clash between Steve Taylor and Paul Barnett that outraged both sets of players and dugouts.

"I don't think I have ever experienced a game quite like it with the crowd and the physical side," said Cowes manager Derek Ohren, who also paid tribute to match winner O'Rourke: "It was a classic goal, he is the jewel in our side and we will miss him if he goes."
