PAUL BULLEN blew the opposition away at the Hampshire Open Ten-pin Bowling Championship - winning not only the under-18s event but the men's open competition as well.

The 18-year-old Applemore College student has been bowling for the past three years and holds the highest average (190) in the Youth Bowling Club as well as being league secretary for the Thursday night doubles league at Southampton's Superbowl.

A regular member of the Hampshire Under-18 squad for the past two years he has a personal high series of 683 and high game of 267. One youngster hoping to follow in his footsteps is ten-year-old Garry Sykes from Tannersbrook Junior School, Millbrook. For the third year running he has had the honour of opening the Miami International Tournament in Florida, beating a 12-year-old French opponent by 500 pins at the last event.

As well as being a member of the Hampshire Under-14 squad, having made his debut for the team at the age of nine, he is the youngest bowler in the Southampton Superbowl Monday night trios league, holding an average of 151 for this season with a personal high game of 256.
