MIKE SMITH knows a thing or two about coaching - as track kings Todd Bennett, Kriss Akabusi, Roger Black and Iwan Thomas would be the first to vouch.
Small wonder then that the Thornhill-based sprint supremo who did so much for their careers was at the very top of Southampton Institute's invitation list when it came to launching the National Coaching Foundation's newest Premier Coaching Centre.
Supported by Southampton City Council, the Institute is one of 80 new Premier Coaching Centres around the country, providing courses for coaches of all sports and levels.
NCF chief executive John Stevens said: "We are delighted to accredit Southampton Institute with Premier Coaching status. It will provide the best possible education and training for coaches in the area."
