NET A KORMA: Khalilur Rahman and his new website.

IT'S the modern solution for anyone who needs a curry in a hurry. Dial up the Internet, select your meal, and have your steaming hot chicken madras, poppadums or cauliflower bhaji delivered to your doorstep in around 30 minutes.

Shalimar Tandoori was the first takeway in Southampton to go live on the World Wide Web when the launch button was pressed by Peter Curbishley, an officer for Southampton's regeneration project last night.

Takeaway manager Khalilur Rahman said: "We haven't got a lot of business at the moment so I thought I would give this a go and see if we can drum up some more business.

"I hope that we will be inundated with orders but I shall just have to wait and see."

The move has been paid for with money from Southampton's regeneration budget.

Mr Rahman admits that his Internet skills need a bit of brushing up, but fortunately another member of his staff is studying computers at college and is well equipped to deal with the orders.

The takeaway is based in St Mary Street, Southampton, and will deliver across the city from Maybush in the west, Bassett in the north to Hedge End and West End.

Their menu offers the curry connoisseur anything from Malayan biriani to a kurma or a vindaloo. They can also bike round fish and chips, burgers and soft drinks to those wanting a slightly less spicy alternative.

The site can be accessed on www.shalimartandoori.co.uk.
