THERE will soon be a new "lord and lady" of Arreton Manor on the Isle of Wight.

One of the Island's most historic properties - a top tourist attraction - is being sold to a main-land couple for close to its asking price of £550,000.

Retired shipping businessman John Clark and his wife Ann, from Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, are planning to use the manor as a private residence.

Set in five acres, the manor has staged many events, including the successful Arretton Pageant in recent years.

Owners Nicholas and Jeanne Schroeder put the property on the market in 1996.

The manor was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was in royal ownership until it was sold by Charles I to pay off debts. Queen Victoria and several crowned heads of Europe have visited the property over the years.
