MARWELL Zoo in Winchester may be best known for its animals but it has highlighted its historic links to the time of Henry VIII.
The zoo has opened a herb garden near Marwell Hall, the home of the uncle of Jane Seymour, one of the king's six wives.
Herbs were popular in the 16th cen-tury and used to treat many human and animal ailments - as they still are today. The garden - arranged in a decorative square with a chamomile seat - was designed by Wendy and Graham Jones of Hunter's Moon Herbs of Durley, near Bishop's Waltham.
Performing the official opening was Margaret Knowles, the wife of John, the founder of the zoo, who recently stepped down as director.
