WHEN it comes to hunting one Hampshire puss has decided it's easier to use her loaf.

Mitzi's lack of killer instincts means she turns her nose up at normal cat prey like bugs, birds and mice and is more than happy to be left on the breadline.

Owner Phil Grafton explains: "She stalks and catches bits of stale bread which people have left lying about and brings it back through the cat-flap as a present.

"She's obviously taking her time and working her way up to animate objects."

And the feline's fetish for all things bread-based doesn't stop there.

Phil, from Cranbourne Park in Hedge End, added: "She also likes to eat malt bread and helps my wife, Catherine, eat her toast in the mornings - maybe she has got an obsession with bread."

Mitzi, who is now nearly two, has been with Phil and family for the last three months after being picked up from the Cats Protection League, along with equally-passive Sophie.

But while both display little of their ancestral hunting instincts, they have no problems evading a predator of a more playful nature.

Phil said: "Our four-year-old boy Nicholas loves the cats and always tries to play with them - it's then that they prove to be quick on their feet."
