THOUSANDS of revellers partied the night away last weekend as students at Southampton University and Southampton Institute celebrated the end of another academic year by having a ball.

All thoughts of the recently-completed exams were put aside as they swapped their dissertations for dinner jackets and ball gowns for the biggest social event of the student calendar.

Some 2,400 university students decamped from Southampton to Poole Arts Centre for their bash while Wide Lane Sports Ground near Southampton Airport provided the venue for the Institute's 3,000 party animals.

And they celebrated in style with food, fancy dress, top music, mayhem and lots and lots of drink.
