HAMPSHIRE'S Angela Newport finished seventh over 3,000 metres in the weekend's European Cup Super League in Paris.

The Basingstoke & Mid-Hants athlete, better known by her maiden name of Davies, clocked 9 minutes 13.71 seconds in a race dominated by Romania's Gabriella Szabo.

The British women finished sixth from eight teams, just pipping Poland and the Czech Republic in the race to avoid relegation.

Hardley Runners retained the Eastleigh RC Anniversary Cup with over a minute to spare as the holders and the trophy's originators dominated the field in this rare 10x1-mile track relay.

Graham McFadyean opened with a storming 4.47 on the grass Applemore College track to set the fastest time of the day and give Hardley a lead that they only briefly lost as their next seven men and two women came home in a total time of 54.30. Sue Sleath was fastest woman in 6.02.

Hardley and Eastleigh (55:23) finished more than a lap clear of the field with Hardley II (topped by race organiser Ian Smith's 5.12) and Eastleigh II third and fourth. Romsey Road Runners and Totton Running Club's private battle went Romsey's way despite a blistering 5.:05 final leg from Totton captain Shaun Driscoll.
