HAMPSHIRE'S heritage is crumbling and more than £70 million will have to found if many of the county's historic buildings are to survive the new millennium.
A risk register published by English Heritage reveals that 32 listed buildings in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are in peril.
Although the price tag for repairing Hampshire's precious jewels is still being calculated, the figure is expected to run into many millions of pounds.
The buildings at risk include the Tudor House Museum, at Southampton; Fort Fareham, Merdon Castle, at Hursley, near Winchester; and the Tide Mill, at Beaulieu
