BEN Fiddy is standing down as chairman of Fawley Parish Council.
Mr Fiddy, 70, held a farewell lunch at Gang Warily sports centre to thank everyone who had helped him during his term of office.
Mr Fiddy joined the parish council only four years ago.
He was appointed vice-chairman in his second year, and 12 months later succeeded Kathy Coles as chairman.
Mr Fiddy marked his retirement by highlighting some of the changes that had taken place in recent years.
He said the parish council was enjoying better relations with Esso and Exxon Chemical - the two com-panies based at Fawley refinery. Mr Fiddy also pointed to a new fitness suite at Gang Warily and improvements in the catering.
Special praise was preserved for the parish clerk, Gordon Richardson.
"He's the main man - and he's done a fantastic job," said Mr Fiddy
