A SWITCH of venues was needed to finish this year's Hampshire Schools under-16 tennis doubles championships after rain brought a halt to play.

The competition was eventually completed at the Southampton Indoor Tennis Centre at David Lloyd Leisure after persistent drizzle made continuous play impossible at the Winchester Tennis and Squash Club.

Southampton's King Edward VI school just missed out on a double after lifting the boys' title but losing in the final of the girls' event.

The team of Will Barrett and Jake Macey swept all before them in the boys' competition, defeating Oaklands 6-2 in the final.

The girls' event saw a reversal of the group results with the Kings' (Winchester) team of Hannah Crawford and Maddie Retter defeating King Edward VI's Charlotte Evans and Hannah Parvin in the final.

The event was organised by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight LTA with Hampshire County Council and the trophies were provided by a donation from the Michael Austin Harlick Memorial Fund.
