HER smile and loving ways helped her parents through the heartbreak of losing a daughter.

Charlotte Davies, who had spina bifida and was profoundly deaf, died more than a year ago at the age of ten. She had won a Child of Courage award.

Her sister, Jessica Davies, was never far away as her parents, Alan and Jenny Davies, cared for Charlotte.

Now the Fareham family are able to celebrate a happy story after eight-year-old Jessica scooped the top prize in the Daily Echo's Father's Day Draw Your Dad competition.

She drew her dad in different outfits - suit, pyjamas, Saints kit and swimming trunks - standing around a giant heart.

Jessica put the finishing touches to the picture before going on holiday and even posted it to the Daily Echo before boarding the plane at Gatwick Airport.

Her prize for winning the seven to ten years category was a new mountain bike which she wheeled away after a presentation ceremony at the Asda store in Chandler's Ford.

Alan said: "Jessica wanted a bike for her birthday and when we got back from holiday we found that she had won one in the Daily Echo competition.

"We will always miss Charlotte, especially when you go holiday and she is not with us. But it was nice to come back and have some good news."

He said that Jessica had always been a great support -"She is always smiling and happy."

Jessica thinks that Alan is a great dad. As her drawing shows, it all comes straight from the heart.
