MAGIC and music was the order of play at Ashurst Cricket Ground as the summer fete brought villagers into the sunshine.

More than 1,000 people attended the special event, which was a celebration for the 20th anniversary of the Ashurst and Colbury Parish Council.

Among the family-based entertainment was international magician JN, a falconry display, a 5km run and an Olympic-style race for youngsters. A variety of stalls from clubs and organisations also provided visitors with an insight into life in the New Forest community.

New Forest MP Dr Julian Lewis opened the fete and Ashurst and Colbury Parish Council Chairman, Sally Arnold, said the day was a great success. It was absolutely fabulous," she said.

"We wanted to have an old-fashioned fete for everyone in the community and the atmosphere throughout the day was really good."
