STAFF and children at a Swanmore school said a heart-felt farewell to their head teacher of more than ten years.

A huge Mad Hatter's tea party at Swanmore Primary School seemed the most fitting tribute for their very own Queen of Hearts, Lesley Hutchings, who is leaving the school after 14 years.

Presented with a special Alice in Wonderland-style crown and sceptre, Ms Hutchings was led to a majestic throne on the school field to say goodbye to the school's 383 pupils.

Having come to the end of her 28-year teaching career, she is moving to France with her partner Chris Cox for some well-earned free time and relaxation.

Pupils, staff and parents were determined to make her last day a special one.

Ms Hutchings has contributed greatly to the school's musical activities and once directed a production of Alice in Wonderland, so staff and pupils decided to bring the fairytale to life again before she left.

There were heart-shaped cakes and biscuits and bottles of squash labelled 'Drink Me' for refreshments at the delightful tea party and pupils donned spectacular hats for the occasion.

Ms Hutchings said: "I have had such a lovely day, it's been wonderful. So much effort has gone into it.

"I have loved my time here. It has been challenging and rewarding."
