SPARE a thought for Pam Lambshead. The Cowplain bowler was within touching distance of Royal Leamington Spa in the Hampshire semi-finals of the four-wood and two-wood singles at Banister Park but lost both.
The Johns Trophy lead was 20-7 ahead in the four-woods but, as the old adage says, that last shot was the hardest to find.
Lambshead didn't as Joan Halliwell, the 2002 champion from Bournemouth club Argyll, fought back to snatch an incredible 21-20 victory.
Following a short breather, Lambshead had to pick herself up for the two-woods against Julie Saunders. She showed real fortitude and went 7-1 in front but she ended up with sympathy rather than victory, beaten 15-10.
