ANNE Pearce is double-booked for next month's national stages of the English Women's BA Championships.

The Atherley bowler, pictured, a regular competitor at Royal Leamington Spa, had already qualified in the fours when she booked her place in the two-wood singles line-up after reaching the Hampshire final.

Playing in the morning quarter-final at Banister Park, Pearce beat Janet Dixon (Kingsclere) 14-6 and took the semi-final 16-7 after marching 10-4 ahead at ten ends against fellow Johns Trophy player Allyson Flint (Cove).

Joining Pearce at the nationals on August 2 in Warwickshire will be Julie Saunders, who achieved a notable hat-trick by reaching the play-offs of all three major Hampshire singles championships. Having been crowned Champion of Champions last month, the Richmond Park member secured her ticket to the four-woods and two-woods, beating Wendy Line in both competitions.

Line bagged singles on the first two ends of their two-woods quarter-final but the Atherley skip did not score for the next nine ends as Saunders gave a dream performance to go 15-2 ahead, winning 18-5.

Barely 30 minutes later the same two returned on a different rink in a different competition but the outcome was the same, with Saunders winning 21-15 in the four-woods semi-final.

Line had earlier overcome Johns Trophy teammate Margaret Darkin (Banister Park) in the last eight of the four-woods. Down 6-1, Darkin recovered to lead 15-13 before bowing out 21-17.

Pearce and Line head for Leamington on August 1 as fours' champions after combining with Jean Arnaud and Jenny McAusland to land the county title 18-15 against Mary Taylor, Carolyn Ford, Maggie Playle and Kay Kerley (Oakley).

l Lee-on-the-Solent are Hampshire champions of the Torquay Leisure Hotels National Top Club competition for the first time.
