Sir.-I would like to say how honoured and delighted I was to receive the Outstanding Older Volunteer Award for the Basingstoke constituency.

I would like to thank all those who were responsible for nominating me and The Gazette for co-ordinating the scheme.

I had a lovely afternoon at the House of Commons on June 21, when I was presented with the award by Basingstoke MP Maria Miller, who accompanied me throughout the event and was a charming host.

Although I, as chairman of the Basingstoke Group of the Wessex Cancer Trust, received the award, I felt as though I was representing the whole group, and I would like to pay tribute to all the members who support me and work so hard, raising more than £20,000 a year for our charity.

It is particularly rewarding to see some of the money being used to benefit the town through projects at Basingstoke hospital, like the Basing Unit and the Wessex Ward in the new oncology and haematology suite.

Many thanks to my colleagues and dear friends in the Wessex Cancer Trust and to everyone who made this award possible.

-Judith Blaza, chairman, Basingstoke Group of the Wessex Cancer Trust.
