PAMBER Scout Group: Can you help?

As I reported in last week's column, this thriving Scout group needs a new leader for September.

The group meets on Thursdays, between 7pm and 9pm, at the Den in Pelican Road, Pamber Heath.

The Den has been recently refurbished, and the lads are full of enthusiasm for the future.

If you would like to help, contact Ian Belcher, Silchester District Commissioner, on 0118 9816586.

PAMBER Heath Gardening Club: Last week the club made a successful visit to two National Trust properties in Sussex - Standen and Nymans.

We were able to see the innovative design features of architect Philip Webb, friend of William Morris, and interior designs of Morris and Co and other arts and craft contemporaries.

In the afternoon, we visited Nymans Gardens, Handcross, West Sussex.

This estate covers more than 600 acres and was originally the family home of Ludwig Messel.

Many well-known plant hunters, including Roy Lancaster and Martin Gardener, have undertaken expeditions to places such as China, Chile and Tasmania, returning with new and exciting plants, some of which are raised at Nymans.

I would like to thank Jane and Richard for organising the outing.

I think everyone had a very enjoyable day.

LATE summer fete and produce show: Is on Saturday, September 3.

Schedules and entry forms for the show can be obtained from the show secretary, Denis Butler, at 83 Silchester Road, Pamber Heath.
