SPORTS day: Wednesday, July 13, at Manor Field Junior School, was great fun on a lovely, hot summer day.

Around the school playing field and playground, 27 different sporting events were attractively laid out for pupils to try.

My thanks must go to members of the school community relations team for the excellent reports they gave me after the event was over.

These were really helpful, because though I walked around on this glorious day, making notes and having a word with many people, there was still much I needed to understand.

Among the activities, a favourite was "Beat the Goalie" and other favourites included "Javelin Throw" and the 60-metre "Shuttle Run".

Some of the other activities were "Netball Bounce", "Football Dribble", "Hockey Dribble", "Hula Hoop", "Lolo Ball" and "Bean Bag Retrieval".

Each child carried around a score sheet, for the adjudicator leading an activity to note the result and sign.

On the following Friday, children received their certificates.

The results depended on the number of activities completed.

For 20 events or more, a platinum certificate was awarded. For 15 events completed, a gold certificate was presented and for 10 events, a silver certificate was given.

A bronze certificate was given for six events.

Everyone did really well and had a good day.

Mitchell interviewed Liam, who said he was exhausted and managed 17 events.

Hayley interviewed Jade and her best activity was "Tennis Ball Bounce".

Parents and friends came along and all were glad of refreshing cool drinks.

When the bell rang at 2.45pm, it was time to go back into school for a rest.
