With an easy win over Christchurch and Coast ARA Champions Herne Bay only managing third place, BTC were crowned Hants and Dorset Champions at the Itchen Imperial Regatta.

As they reach peak performance BTC must be setting their sights on another Bideford Bowl Senior win at the South Coast Rowing Championships at Bexhill on Sea this Saturday.

Trinity College Cambridge were visitors to the Itchen Regatta and trying coastal racing for the first time after their recent cross channel charity dash.

They held Hants and Dorset Ladies' Senior Champions Coalporters to within 18 inches in a thrilling final.

Christchurch got the better of Poole to claim the Veteran 40-plus Hants and Dorset Championship title, once again showing that age in no barrier. The crews raced within three-quarters of a length of each other, the lead changing several times before Christchuirch won by half-a-length.

There was disappointment for the home crew in the senior pairs after an unsuccessful appeal.

Lymington's Alistair Keir and Peter Lock retained their Hants and Dorset title in a controversial finish when Itchen's James Foad and Matt Joyce had their claim for obstruction overruled by officials.

But with five wins, including a first for Jackie Wardell in the ladies' novice sculls and daughter Kerry in the Junior Under-16 category, again Itchen had plenty to cheer about.
