MANOR Field Junior School: The afternoon assembly was a special occasion on November 2.

The headteacher, Mrs Cushing, explained that there were two assemblies on November 2.

In the morning assembly, children were invited to vote for pupils to be members of the school council.

When voting, pupils understood that school councillors would need to make good decisions on behalf of the school.

Qualities important in school councillors included being good listeners and good communicators, as well as being punctual and showing respect for others.

Councillors are members of a team and should be able to encourage voters to express their opinions.

The campaign for electing councillors lasted several days and notices were displayed around the school.

During the afternoon assembly, I was asked to distribute badges to the new school councillors.

I explained that I was a borough councillor and, though not perfect, I did my best.

Furthermore, councillors sometimes benefit from interesting opportunities, but also encounter plenty of hard work!

Elected to the school council were Jack Elie, Kellie Barrier, Deanna Kempster (also elected chairperson of the school council), Liam Sargent, Tim Wolf, David Seddon and Jake Neller.
