A RISE in complaints about antisocial behaviour has prompted the introduction of closed circuit TV around a popular park and community centre.

Councillors in Park Gate have been receiving calls about the rising tide of vandalism and nuisance behaviour in and around Priory Park.

They have now succeeded in getting funding for several CCTV cameras and hope to flush out nuisance behaviour from the area.

Marian Ellerton, Fareham borough councillor for Park Gate ward, said the problem had been particularly bad over the summer.

She said: "There were growing concerns about the number of young people gathering in the car park at Priory Park and drinking and making an almighty noise.

"The problem was particularly bad over the summer months with them staying out until about two in the morning. It was this that prompted the calls for action before winter sets in."

Over recent months the community centre at Priory Park has been a popular choice for graffiti artists who have been "tagging" the building.

Councillor Sean Woodward, a member of Hampshire Police Authority, said the money was there to be taken to make the improvements to the community hall.

He added: "It is very much a situation where the police, council and community have come together to target vandalism."

The CCTV will cost about £4,600. A Police and Community Consultation is being held at the centre on Monday, November 28 starting at 8pm
