HAMPSHIRE taxpayers could end up shelling out extra for hundreds more police community support officers (PCSOs) destined for the county's streets.
The government has allocated 539 officers to Hampshire in a bid to tackle low-level disorder.
Although they have pledged to fund the officers completely for the first year, only 75 per cent of the total cost will be provided in subsequent years.
As a result the county's police authority - the body in charge of budgeting - has identified a £5.6m funding deficit over two years.
