THE latest event of the Hampshire Alliance's winter season, the President's Putter, was won at Liphook by the Army pairing of Scott Shibley (assistant professional) and Matt Emerson (amateur).
Despite November's damp conditions, the greens were a delight to putt on so it was somewhat of a surprise that the winners tallied only 60 points for the 27-hole greensome.
This was, however, good enough for a five-point winning margin over Chris Hudson (Southwood) and Ian Walton (Army) and Rory O'Keefe (Alresford) and Mick Peace (Basingstoke) - both pairings notching 55 points.
In the all-amateur section, Geoff Keet (Army) and Ken Mills (Alresford) won with 58 points from Peter Wright (Southwick Park) and Barrie Whiteford (Brokenhurst Manor) on 55 points.
