RESIDENTS in Weeke are breathing a sigh of relief now that a new home has been found for their Post Office.

Plans to close the Alldays store on the corner of Stoney Lane and Bereweeke Road, where the Post Office was located, meant that it was facing the axe.

This angered residents who said they could not, or did not wish to travel to Littleton, Kings Worthy, or into the centre of Winchester to use the Post Office.

However, Southern Co-operatives Ltd, which runs the nearby Co-op on 61-65 Stoney Lane, and is an independent society from the Co-operative Group, which ran the Alldays Store, has been in negotiations to re-house the Weeke branch.

Now the Alldays store will close on Saturday, February 4, and residents will have to use other Post Offices for five days until the new facility is ready on Thursday, February 9.

Post Office Ltd has issued a letter to customers explaining the changes which is available at the Weeke branch.

People wishing to write to the Post Office regarding the re-location of Weeke Post Office should address their correspondence to Julia Marwood, national consultation manager, Post Office Ltd, c/o National Consultation Team, PO Box 2060, Watford, WD18 8ZW.
