MORE than 500,000 people visited Marwell Zoo last year - the highest number in the park's 34-year history.

Bosses at the zoo say their success has been down to a number of factors, most important of which were the animals themselves.

The birth of several tiger cubs and three giraffe babies have helped swell visitor numbers, as has the opening of the new Roof of the World enclosure and the birth of a snow leopard cub.

A spokesman for the zoo, said: "As a charity, Marwell relies on visitors and pass holders to support its conservation work."
