A DANGEROUS stretch of road in Alresford should be fixed by summer, civic chiefs have promised.
The problem centred around the railway bridge in Jacklyn's Lane, which is too narrow to safely allow both car and pedestrians or wheelchair users to use it at the same time.
Members of the Alresford Town Council have voted to install a new footpath under the bridge, and test a traffic-calming measure at the site.
They also warned that if this fails to solve the problem, then traffic lights would need to be installed, and that Hampshire County Council did not currently have the funds available to do this.
The proposed work follows a survey carried out on the road, which showed that 4,000 vehicles and 1,000 people a day pass under the bridge.
