A MYSTERY object triggered a bomb scare at a Hampshire recycling unit.
Experts from the county's police bomb disposal unit went to the household recycling centre in Grange Road, Gosport, yesterday morning to assess a canister-shaped object which had been found by concerned staff.
It is thought that a member of public had left the object.
Police cordoned off an area of Grange Road surrounding the unit while experts carried out the assessment. The object was pronounced a hoax bomb about two hours later and police cleared the scene.
A spokesman for Hampshire police said: "The object looked like some sort of canister and staff at the centre were not happy with it so we were called. But it was discovered that the bomb was a hoax.
"The immediate concern was to make sure everyone was safe and that it wasn't a genuine device."
