Triumphant Totton have booked their place in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup final for the second time in four years at the expense of favourites Winchester City.

The 2002/3 winners bounced back from 2-1 down to win the second leg 3-2 at Testwood Park after last week's goalless stalemate at Winchester.

The evening was marred by yet another injury.

Winchester defender Ian Buckman was taken to hospital with a gashed head and concussion only minutes after going on as a second-half substitute.

It followed two casualties the previous week when Totton's young defender Lee Thorne broke his leg in two places and City striker Ian Mancey broke his wrist.

Totton got off to a perfect start when James Roden buried an early 20-yarder, but back came City with a scrambled Mark Jones goal and one from Jamie Musselwhite.

Left winger Mike Gosney, again being watched by AFC Bournemouth, arrived late at the back post to slot in Totton's equaliser and it was Kevin Reacord who settled matters in spectacular fashion, racing through from the halfway line and launching a superb strike from 25 yards.

"In the first half Winchester proved why they are the best side in the Wessex League, but in the second we made them look very ordinary," summed up Totton's assistant boss Sean New.

"When our defender Dean Wheeler went off injured, we brought on Mark Piper and switched to three up front and we ripped them apart. The pace of Mark Osman and Piper was too much for them and we could have had four or five in the end."

New added: "If Mike Gosney's performance wasn't good enough for him to be taken on by Bournemouth, I don't what was.

"He was up against Shaun Dyke and he terrorised him and we had Matt Troon backing him up."

Winchester's director of football David Malone took defeat squarely on the chin, admitting: "Totton deserved their win." But he added: "Once Bucko was injured (at 2-2) it took the shine off for us. He had a bad cut across his head and he was being sick. I hope it's only concussion."

Totton will face the winners of tonight's other semi-final between Poole and Andover.

Andover, who hold a 2-1 first-leg lead, have lost midfielder Dave Asker to a two-week suspension.
