IT was a red-letter day for Atherley and Anne Pearce in particular during the Hampshire Women's Indoor BA finals at Longmeadow.

The Southampton club captured three of the four titles with Pearce celebrating a double triumph.

Champion in 2004 and runner-up last year, she reclaimed the singles' trophy with a runaway 21-3 win and teamed up with Margaret Darkin and skip Wendy Line to take the triples almost as comfortably.

The red cardigans of Ather-ley completed a treble in the pairs thanks to Ann Littlewood and Jean Terrell.

Pearce anticipated a testing examination in the singles as she was against Maggie Playle, a former national fours' outdoor champion, who had the advantage of playing on her home carpet.

However, Pearce slipped straight into top gear with accurate first woods regularly putting pressure on Playle who simply could not respond.

It was typical when Pearce - 6-0 up - extended the lead with her opening two deliveries on the following end, both within a foot of the jack.

The Atherley player staged a repeat three ends later with two beauties and then rolled in for a third to go 12-1 ahead after the desperate Playle had fired without luck.

Pearce had 16 posted before Playle scored again and al-though the Longmeadow bowler took the mat up the green in an effort to unsettle her opponent, the move failed as Pearce immediately regained control.

Pearce and her regular skip Wendy Line have enjoyed a winter wonderland, winning the national two-wood triples and being finalists in the triples at Nottingham.

Jean Arnaud - the third bowler in their Nottingham glory - took a back seat this time as Pearce, Darkin and Line swept to the county crown 17-6 against Felicity Lillywhite, Hannah Burden and Linda Hayward of Longmeadow.

At six ends, Atherley looked to have a fight on their hands when the host club held a 4-3 lead, but then Line and company got into their stride and monopolised the rest of the match. Line seized 11 shots from the next six ends to dash 14-5 up by the 12th and, when the gap stretched to 17-6 on the 16th, Longmeadow waved the white flag.
