ANDOVER'S Shepherds Spring Junior School pupils transported Ireland to their school hall on Friday to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

The school invited councillors and retired residents of Sandringham House, on King Arthur's Way estate for a lunch of roast beef or sweet potato curry with vegetables.

The children were waiters to the 31 visitors and staff.

Even though the food was not traditional Irish fare, the school hall was decorated with the traditional Irish shamrock.

Each diner had a green place mat and each table was adorned with a giant green cut-out shamrock.

Giant shamrocks were also used to decorate the walls.

Carol Bowen, admin officer for the school, said: "It looked absolutely fantastic."

In all the kitchen prepared 122 lunches before the visitors were taken to a classroom to be served with coffee and after dinner mints.
