NE OF Tony Blair's most senior legal advisers has backed the Daily Echo's battle to crack down on yobs in Southamp-ton.

In an exclusive interview, Mike O'Brien, Labour's Solicitor General praised our "Stop the Yobs" campaign.

Mr O'Brien said: "This is the issue that people are most concerned about. That is why the campaign by your newspaper is so important in highlighting what the government feels and what the community feels."

The minister, accompanied by Southampton Itchen MP John Denham, met residents in Sholing yesterday to answer questions on the Prime Minister's "respect" agenda.

His visit came just three weeks after Home Office minister Hazel Blears called on city council bosses to get tough on yobs who blight the lives of residents.

It was revealed that the police and the city council received as many as 1,000 calls a month from residents fed up with youths making their lives a misery - the highest figure recorded in the UK.
