SAFETY railings are likely to be installed near the spot where a Romsey teenager was killed last month.

Romsey's county, borough and town councillor Mark Cooper says he's been told a number of measures are to be taken to improve pedestrian safety at the crossing over the A3090, close to the junction of Viney Avenue. Cyclist and 13-year-old Romsey School pupil Dean Cameron died while crossing the road on Tuesday, February 21.

Mr Cooper said he was concerned a similar accident could happen and contacted Hampshire's road bosses to see what could be done to prevent further tragedy. Guard railings aimed at drawing pedestrians towards the crossing are to be installed on the A3090 near the junction.

And anti-skid surfacing (probably coloured red) is to be applied on the road at the approaches to the crossing and on the westbound carriageway of the A3090, between the Braishfield Road and Viney Avenue junctions.
