Broughton 8 Hamble Club Res 0 BROUGHTON striker Pete 'Pump' Edwards has had to take his fair share of ribbing lately - after all, he hadn't scored all season - but he put that right in fine style with a brace in Saturday's romp to victory over lowly Hamble. After three successive defeats a win was just the tonic Broughton needed.

The victory was built around a superb performance from the midfield quartet. Scott Vidler, who departed the club to try his luck with Eastleigh FC earlier in the season, was back for this game and alongside Tim Rose, Sam Flack and Stuart Griffiths, he pulled the strings to put the home side in the comfort zone.

Broughton scored four times in each half. To add to Edwards' brace, the first of which was from a free-kick, Mike Barker also netted twice. Rose, Vidler, Ben Page and sub Ryan Wareham all registered one apiece.

"The pick of the goals were Tim's and Ben's," said player-manager Paul Blackmore, who revelled in a free role between strikers and midfield.

"Tim (Rose) stole in between two defenders and produced a peach of a finish, while Ben (Page) outpaced a defender and almost broke the back of the net with his shot. "To be fair, Hamble were better than 8-0, but we're not complaining!"

Blackmore's 21-day suspension for his sending off against Durley starts on Monday (Mar 27), while defender Paul Collis is also facing a spell on the sidelines following the red card he was shown in an altercation with ex-Broughton player Lee Cogan last week.

This Saturday, Broughton entertain fifth-placed Sporting BTC at Buckholt Road.
