A SIX-year-old girl today remained in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Southampton.
Paramedics were called to Carnation Road in Bassett Green at 6.52pm last night and spent 40 minutes treating the girl at the scene.
She was taken to Southampton General Hospital at 7.42pm by ambulance.
It is understood the girl was crossing the road when she collided with the car.
The driver, a 33-year-old man from Southampton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
He has been bailed until July pending further inquiries.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses who saw the collision between the girl and the green Nissan Primera.
The road was cordoned off by police for most of the evening.
