A £10,000 reward has been offered to help catch the murderer of a Southampton man.

Wieslaw Filus was found dead in his bed by flatmates at his bedsit home in Denzil Avenue nine months ago.

A post-mortem examination revealed the 45-year-old Polish national had suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Police believe he had been assaulted the day before his death on July 18 last year. But appeals in both English and Polish for help finding where he went the night he was attacked have so far failed to provide enough clues to discover exactly what happened to him.

Now detectives investigating his death have put up a £10,000 reward in a bid to catch his killer.

They have spoken to people in Southampton and Poland in an attempt to build up a picture of Mr Filus, who worked as a labourer.

Desperate for a breakthrough in the investigation, Hampshire police are now offering the reward for information that could be the key to solving the murder.

Detective Inspector Dave Smith, from the major crime department said: “We’ve followed several leads in this case but we would like to hear from anyone who has information that would bring Mr Filus’s killer to justice and give his family some answers.

“We believe the Polish community may hold the key to helping us solve this murder and I’m appealing directly to anyone who knew what happened to him that night to come forward and speak to us.

“If you have information, even if you have contacted the police before, please get in contact.

“There is a £10,000 reward being offered for information which leads to a successful prosecution and I’m hopeful that this reward will motivate someone to come forward.”

n Anyone with any information should call 0845 045 4545. If they are Polish speakers they can call 023 8059 9969. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 – but to successfully claim the reward police will need the person’s contact details.
